Tin Star is the sexy and talented singer/guitarist for one of Sweden's hottest band's Gemini-Five. Their music as they describe on their official website is "ultra-heavy-cool-rock & roll". Thank you so much to Tin for taking the time to answer a few questions!! I am looking forward to seeing and hearing more about this band in the US and I am holding him to the promise he made in the interview or I will be going to Sweden in 2006!! ~jo~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
jo: How would you describe Gemini Five music to someone who has never heard it before?
Tin Star: 4 superstars with the looks of the best from the 80´s and the new shit combined with heavy riffs and catchy melodies and great songs. New Sleaze as it´s best.
jo: What made you pick up a guitar for the first time? How old were you?
Tin Star: I got my first record with Kiss when I was 6 years old. It changed my world forever. Got my first guitar in 2nd grade. My dad taught me how to play in the beginning.
jo: Did singing come naturally when you picked up the guitar?
Tin Star: I´ve always been an ok background singer but didn´t give the lead vocals a real chance until ´bout 1998. In the beginning people told me I sounded like Billy Corgan from The Pumpkins. Hopefully I have my own sound now. I love singing my songs and think it would be really weird if somebody else would be the lead singer in the band.
jo: Tell me about the new CD "Black:Anthem". I watched the video for "When the Body Speaks" and think it is as your band history states "ultra-heavy-cool-rock&roll". Is that the sound/style of the CD?
Tin Star: The new album has more of everything compared to the Babylon-album. Heavier songs and heavier riffs but still not lacking of great melodies. This is the way we wanted the first album to sound like but we didn´t really get there the first time. The video for "When the body speaks" came out great. We´re editing the new video for "Black Anthem" right now.
jo: The question you have probably been asked a thousand times...your musical influences?
Tin Star: We all grew up with the Mötley Crüe/Skid Row bands and it´s grown into the backbone of everyone. Me and Pete are more into groovie 70´s stuff while Rod and Snoopy like the new thing with Korn and Marylin Manson. It creates a great mixture.
jo: Can you give me one word to describe your music?
Tin Star: New Sleaze-ultra-heavy-cool-rock&roll
jo: One word to describe each of you?
Hot Rod: Rockstar
Slim Pete: Groover
Snoopy: Wildheart
Me??? Director...
jo: What do you want your fans to get out of your music?
Tin Star: We wanna make people feel for Gemini Five as we felt when we we´re younger and went to a KISS or a Mötley Crüe show.We wanna shake everybody’s foundation and reach into their hearts. No one should leave a G5 show unhappy.
jo: Can you describe a regular day in your life when you are not on tour?
Tin Star: Not sleep too late and try to forget the
hangover. Do some interviews. There´s always things to be done around the band.
We rehearse like 2 nights a week and spend the rest of the time drinking beers
and having fun.
jo: What bands are you listening to these days?
Tin Star: HIM and The 69 EYES are great new bands. I´m a fan of melodic rock and can sometimes enjoy an old Journey record. Rod likes Avril Lavine and Marilyn Manson, Snoopy likes Korn and Dr Dre and Pete´s a 70´s groover with Led Zeppelin and AC/DC.
jo: Have you ever played in the US? Are there any plans to cross over to the United States in the near future?
Tin Star: Gemini Five´s never played US (yet) but Rod´s
been in L.A bands such as The Jet Set and The Beautiful Creatures. Unfortunately
he got deported from the US in 2001 and can hopefully return in 2006. I´m sure
our US-label wants us to tour US next year.
I´m making you a promise right now. We´ll come next year ...that´s for
sure...!!!!!!
jo: Give me one positive (personality trait, etc) and one bad habit for each of you.
Rod Incredibly productive / Vain as hell
Snoopy Got no brakes / Got too much on his hands
Slim Pete Goodhearted / Angry driver
Tin Star Easygoing / Impatient
jo: If you could put the ULTIMATE tour together to travel
worldwide, what bands would you want to tour with?
Tin Star: KISS, Mötley Crüe, Marilyn Manson and
Gemini Five
jo: For the ladies (yes chicks are just as bad as guys, maybe worse!): Boxers, briefs or commando?
Tin Star: No shit????? Boxers
jo: What would you do if you were invisible for 24 hours?
Tin Star: Rob a few banks to secure future wealth. Sneak into Princess Madeleine’s bedroom to have a little peak of her nude.
jo: What position do you sleep in?
Tin Star: In the arms of someone I love…
jo: What is the last thing you do before you go to sleep?
Tin Star: Put out my cigarette and turn off the TV.
jo: The first thing you do when you wake up?
Tin Star: Turn on the TV and have a smoke.
jo: Who is the "wildest bad boy" in the band and why?
Tin Star: Snoopy can get kinda wild sometimes but Rod´s a maniac when he´s drunk and on substances.
jo: Message for your fans??
Tin Star: Thanx for showing us that you care so much and thanx for all the mails. We hope to come over to you and perform a show you´ll never forget. Keep the spirit....
