JLLOUD N NASTY INTERVIEW

by Jen and Emzy

4/29/05

It's around 6pm in an unusually sunny Bradford, and we are with Swedish rockers Loud 'n' Nasty's in their tour van. We are around the back of the first venue on their tour supporting Faster Pussycat in the UK. The guys - Rob Nasty (lead vocals/bass), Chris Loud (guitar) and T-bone (drums) - are waiting to sound check so we take the opportunity to interview them about everything from their music and touring, to mullets and spandex!

J/E: How would you describe your music?
Rob: well it's sleazy, in the vains of the early 80's, I think. Much from there on from 81' to 84' I think.

J/E: Who are your influences, or bands that have inspired you?
Rob: It's bands like Motley Crue, Ratt, KISS, and WASP, and T-Bone listens to a lot of Spice Girls (laughs) no but he listens to stuff like Led Zeppelin and stuff too so...

J/E: Which band/artist would you call your "Idol"?
Rob: I think it's Motley Crue for all of us.
T-Bone: Led Zeppelin.

J/E: How did the band start?
Rob: It was me and Chris who got together to record some songs, we started to record some Motley Crue tributes and then we started making our own songs.
Chris: 1998
Rob: yeah

J/E: Have you changed drummers in the past?
Rob: Yeah, we had on the first promotional CD we did Chris playing the drums, and it was only two of us, me and Chris, and then we got Tommie Rocker who joined the band for the 'I wanna live my life in the fame' CD, and then we changed drummer to T-Bone, who's playing on 'Teaser.

J/E: and who writes the songs?
Rob: It's mostly me and Chris, and T-Bone is getting more and more into it.

J/E: What inspires you to write music?
Chris: Everything, it depends what mood we are in, some days you can write 50 songs, somedays you can write zero songs, its very dependable, I don't know.

J/E: When did you decide you wanted to be a musician?
Chris: since er 2, 3? (laughs)
Rob: yeah I think that's something I always wanted to be since I started listening to music.

J/E: So this is your first time in the UK, have you played in any other countries besides Sweden?
Rob: yeah we've been in Spain, we played a festival there. And also played in Denmark but otherwise UK its the first place out of Sweden.

J/E: Is there anywhere else you want to play?
Rob: We're going to Italy and we're gonna play in Germany soon. But we hope to go to America too.

J/E: There seem to be quite a few other glam/sleaze bands in Sweden like Crashdiet, what is the scene like over there?
Rob: Well it's getting more and more bands like in that genre, like sleaze and glam. But it's just like in one or two years there's been lots of bands playing that type of music, so it's getting bigger over there.

J/E: How big would you say you are in Sweden?
Rob: I think we're like Motley Crue I think (laughs) no it depends 'cos we were one of the first bands to play that type of music, we got like you know, from the beginning we played at the local clubs and stuff, we got the fans from there, and then it got bigger and bigger, so it's hard to say how big 'cos it's still the underground with the sleaze in Sweden so. But we have got a name in Sweden.

J/E: What can we expect from your stage show?
Rob: You have to wait and see!

J/E: Well that's not fair!
Rob: Well, yeah,  it's like.. I think it's like taking a trip back to the 80's, but still with a fresh sound.

J/E: What's the best show you've played?
Rob: I don't know. Personally I liked the show in Spain, on the festival there, it was a really cool show. I liked that a lot. But sometimes it's cool to play in like a local club, when you've got people you know in front of the stage, that's really cool as well.

J/E: So what's it like touring with Loud n' Nasty?
Rob: Well (laughs) we don't know yet, maybe this is our only show!

J/E: Is it like sex, drugs n' rock n' roll or..
Rob: Well no we're not that... well sex (laughs) but, well we're into rock n' roll and sex, but not drugs.

J/E: What's your most rock n' roll moment? Have you done anything 'wild'?
Rob: Oh that's a hard one.. I don't know, it was pretty crazy when T-Bone stole a beer from Steven Adler (laughs).
(T-Bone says something , I can't understand it though, was probably something in Swedish ha,ha)

J/E: You've released CDs 'I Wanna Live My Life in the Fame', 'Too Much Ain't Enough' and 'Teaser Teaser',
which would you say has been the best so far?
Rob: I like 'Teaser Teaser'
Chris: Yeah

J/E: Would you recommend that to first time listeners?
Rob: Yeah, cos it's, when I think of Loud 'n' Nasty that's the songs that I really like. But it's really cool songs on the other CDs, but we put more time into 'Teaser Teaser' than the other albums.

Jen: Now I have the random questions, that aren't anything to do with Loud n' nasty really, but each one of you has to answer them!

J/E: Which would you prefer to be: deaf or blind?
Rob: oh that's a hard one
Chris: blind
T-bone: deaf
Rob: yeah deaf I think
T-bone: deaf and blind maybe
Rob: you are!

What's the most embarrassing situation you've been in?
Rob: I can't tell you that! That would be embarrassing for Eva too (note: his girlfriend, sat with him lol) Just kidding! (laughs) I don't know, T-bone?
T-bone: I don't know, I'm never embarrassed!

J/E: If you could have written any song in history which one would it be?
Rob: Play Dirty (note: one of their own songs)

J/E: Well that doesn't count!
Rob: oh ok, erm I don't know, maybe 'Too young to fall in love' I think.
Chris: I don't know, 'Johnny B Goode'
(T-bone doesn't hear the question)
Rob: I think he's deaf already
Chris: you hear that?
*go on to say something about the Beatles*

J/E: If you could travel back in time, which era of the past would you visit?
Rob: I think... do I keep my own age for now or?

J/E: Yeah you can
Rob: ok, yeah it would be nice to go back to the Los Angeles in 1983, '84 I think
Chris: Tomorrow (note: wtf lol)
T-Bone: '68 maybe

J/E: What print of spandex is the best?
Rob: I don't know, cos I make my own, Rob Nasty spandex

J/E: But what print, like leopard print or..
Rob: ooh, well actually I use only white but I think zebra is cooler than leopard (print)
Chris: er I don't know, see through (laughs)
T-bone: I don't know, zebra maybe
Rob: crocodile (laughs)
T-bone: yeah!

J/E: I already asked Rob this question yesterday but I need it on tape: Which would you rather have, a mullet or an 80's style Bon Jovi poodle perm?
Rob: The 80s style Bon Jovi hair!
Chris: a mullet
T-Bone: same here

J/E: If Vince Neil and Axl Rose were in a fight, who would win?
Rob: Vince Neil of course
Chris: yeah Vince Neil
T-Bone: yep

J/E: Ok the question we have to ask every band: When you are in the shower, and have to pee really bad, so bad that you can't wait until you finished showering, do you just pee in the shower or do you get out, go to the toilet and then get back in the shower?
Rob: I go out, definitely!
T-Bone: go out, yeah of course!
Chris: I don't have a shower!

J/E: In your bathtub?
Chris: I don't have a bath tub

J/E: or a shower?
Chris: no

J/E: lol Finally, is there anything you want to say to all the people reading this?
Rob: yeah I hope everybody's coming to see us if we're in a town near them, I don't wanna miss that.

J/E: and you (T-bone) have to say something cos you never say anything
T-bone: errr bah!!

J/E:  say something in Swedish
T-bone: errr, umm... vad ska jag säga (translation: what shall I say?)
