Sammy is the handsome and talented vocalist of the Finnish rock band Private Line. This is his second interview with me and I look forward to seeing them in concert in the next few months either here in the US or Finland! Enjoy! ~mt
Email Interview with Sammy, vocalist of Private Line
6/06 via email from Helsinki Finland!
MT: How are things going with the release of your CD
here in the US? Any idea of a release date at this point?
Sammy: Actually I still don´t know the exact date for the release, but it should
be before the fall. The original schedule was to release it in July, but the
label (456 Entertainment) wants to get the "Viva La Bands 2" CD out before our
album. Our song or two will be included on that album and they think it's a good
way to introduce us to the US rock fans.
MT: To further expand on the first question. Will
there be a full US tour this year?
Sammy: I was told so. Sorry to say, but I really don't know when and where it
will take place. I'm pretty sure there will be a US tour during this year.
MT: How do you think the US will react to Private
Line??
Sammy: You and all other Americans should be scared of the bunch of pirates from
the north who will take your daughter's hearts and steal your boy's balls to
rock. Let's see when we finally sail to that side of the sea.
MT: I noticed a drastic image change in recent
photos of Private Line. Can you explain the change?
Sammy: I don't feel it's a dramatic change. Come on, they're just thenew promo
pics. I like a little makeovers here and there. The idea was to look a little
different from all the other rock bandsnowadays. I'm a little bored of all those
bands that look the same with their black leather pants. Of course I still like
black leather sometimes. We also wanted to bring some clockwork orange
meets the air force from hell to those pictures. You will understand it better
when you hear the name of the new album, but that is still a secret.
MT: Tell me a little bit about each of the guys in
Private Line.Just a little bit about their personality and what they bring to
the band!
Sammy: Jack is the princess, Spit is the soldier, Illy is the wizard, Elias is
the joker and I'm... the king without the crown I guess...You can use your
imagination what that means.
MT: Give me a best quality and worst habit of each
of you.
Sammy: Jack is the guy who does everything with full passion. Sometimes the same
thing could be the worst habit as well.. Spit is very loyalin every meaning. His
worst habit might be the sock sniffing on the tour bus. Illy's best quality is
how he handles all the instruments. The worst is that he's always late. Even
days... Elias is the one ofthe best drummers I've ever met and very talented in
many ways. He lives in his own world and that's why he's unreachable sometimes.
I don't ever give up if I start to do something, even if I have to work my ass
off. I'm also very straight about the things that piss me off and I don't mind
saying it out loud even when I could say it in a nicer way...
MT: Where do you see Private Line in 5 years?
Sammy: At a golf club with Alice Cooper after the sold out world tour ; )
MT: Funny one for the ladies! Boxers, briefs or
commando?
Sammy: Briefs or commando. Never boxers, they're uncomfortable.
MT: If you could change one thing about
yourself or your life what would it be and why?
Sammy: I would like to play piano better, but it's never too late to practice. I
don't regret any of the things I've done. Hey, It's just life, nothing serious.
MT: What one thing/person do you miss most while
touring?
Sammy: My son. He's 2 years old now.
MT: How do you feel about boot leg recordings
of your music??
Sammy: I don't mind if someone wants to listen/record those. Very often they're
recorded with a crappy sound quality . I really dug them when I was a teenager.
MT: What position do you sleep in?
Sammy: I lie down if possible ; )
MT: If you could change lives with anyone for 24
hours who would it be and why?
Sammy: I would change life of the European singer Robbie Williams. He's got all
the money, glory, talent and all the women he wants and he still eats Prozac. I
would like to know why.
MT: If you were a villain in a movie, which one
would you be and why?
Sammy: I would be the big gorilla in King Kong. He's big, hairy and wild at
heart.
MT: What is your favorite Private Line song to
perform live??
Sammy: In the latest gigs I really enjoyed playing "Selflove-Sick". We haven't
played it for a long time and it was fun to play it again on stage. I'm playing
acoustic guitar in that one which makes it special too.
MT: I love your cover of "Live Wire". Do you think
you will include that in your set while touring the US?
Sammy: Yes, maybe... We just put if back in the set list in the recent gigs.
MT: How do you feel about MySpace?
Sammy: I think it's a great way to communicate with people from the other side
of the earth, but of course nothing beats face to face contact. It's also very
good way to find new bands you've never heard about.
MT: Anything you would like to say to your new or
existing fans??
Sammy: Be patient. We WILL come to the US!
MT: Give me one word to describe Private Line
music!
Sammy: Epäpätemättömyydelläänsäkäänköhän? A free t-shirt to any non-Finn
who can make an accurate English translation for that.
Thank you to Sammy for taking the time to answer my questions. I hope to bring you more Private Line during the months ahead, but in the meantime be sure to check his first interview with me from December 2005 and check their official site and Myspace for more info! If you haven't already done so join their US Street Team, The American Pirates too! ~mt
